German School Exchange - 20/11/09

During the first two weeks of November in conjunction with students from the Royal Grammar School and Wycombe High School, Pipers girls in UIV and LV took part in the first stage of an exchange with students from the Ratsgymnasium in Osnabruck, Germany.

The whole of the Pre-Prep Department took part again this year in the Operation Christmas Child initiative, sending shoeboxes filled with lots of goodies to less fortunate children around the world.

The annual bonfire and fireworks party took place at Pipers Corner on Saturday 7 November. We were delighted to welcome so many members of the Pipers Community to share together and enjoy the impressive bonfire and fireworks display.

There were some spooky goings on at Pipers before the half-term break as the Boarders got into the spirit of Halloween as with a themed supper to mark the occasion. All the girls dressed up as ghosts, ghouls, witches and black cats as they enjoyed some creatively themed food.

Inspiration Through Dance - 28/10/09

On Monday Pipers Corner School was delighted to welcome pianist, Anna Markland and violinist, Catherine van de Geest to perform. The musicians entertained the girls in Prep, Year 7 and Year 8 during an afternoon workshop before the main recital performance in the evening.

Last Friday afternoon there was great excitement amongst Pre-Prep 2 girls as they held their first ever Grandparents' Tea Party. With invitations sent out and replies received, the girls and their teachers had spent the week planning, baking and making posters.

Over the last week Y6 girls have been exploring the lives of children in the Victorian age. As part of their History lessons the girls brought their Victorian alter egos to life by dressing up and giving presentations as trappers, maids of all work, factory workers, miners and chimney sweeps.

Girls from Mandeville House demonstrated their community spirit today as they held their annual Harvest Festival Service. Each member of Mandeville came to House assembly with a decorated harvest box to form part of a collection of goods to be distributed to local pensioners living in the High Wycombe area.

On Thursday 8 October Pipers Corner School welcomed Lady Buckinghamshire, along with the Chairman of Buckinghamshire County Council, Mr Richard Pushman, the Chairman of Wycombe District Council, Cllr Alan Hill, and the Chairman of Hughenden Parish Council, Cllr Peggy Ewart, to the official opening of the Lady Buckinghamshire Studios.

On Sunday 4 October several Pipers girls attended the Under 14 South Bucks County netball academy trials. (This replaces the old county system in netball). Over 65 girls from schools all over South Bucks were trialling and we were delighted that four of our girls were selected for the squad.

On Friday 25 September, Pipers girls joined thousands of people across the country, and in several other parts of the world, when they held a coffee morning to raise money for people affected by cancer. The initiative on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support was part of the "World's Biggest Coffee Morning".
